SUBCOMMITTEE ACTION

The Subcommittee on Fisheries Conservation, Wildlife and Oceans met in open markup session on Wednesday, April 17, 2002 and forwarded the following bills to the Full Committee for consideration:

H.R. 3558 To protect, conserve, and restore native fish, wildlife, and their natural habitats on Federal lands through cooperative, incentive-based grants to control, mitigate, and eradicate harmful nonnative species, and for other purposes; was approved for Full Committee consideration, without amendment, by Voice Vote.

H.R. 3908 To reauthorize the North American Wetlands Conservation Act, and for other purposes; was approved for Full Committee consideration, amended, by Voice Vote.

The following amendment was offered:

An Amendment in the Nature of a Substitute offered by Mr. Gilchrest (#1), re: to 1) authorize in FY 2003 at $55 million with an increase of $5 million per year though FY 2007; 2) change the proportions of NAWCA dollars required to be spent in Canada and Mexico from 50-70 percent to 25-50 percent; and 3) clarify that grant match requirements stem from non-Federal United States sources; was AGREED TO by Voice Vote.

H.R. 4044 To authorize the Secretary of the Interior to provide assistance to the State of Maryland for implementation of a program to eradicate nutria and restore marshland damaged my nutria; was approved for Full Committee consideration, amended, by Voice Vote.

The following amendment was offered:

An amendment offered by Mr. Gilchrest (#1), re: to strike on Page 3, Line 20 "10 percent" and insert "5 percent"; was AGREED TO by Voice Vote.
